Packaging Design & Label Design Adelaide

Packaging plays an important role in consumer choices. Good packaging design will have strong shelf presence and attract attention, clearly communicate your brand story, express the quality of the product and ultimately get customers to choose your product above others within a crowded market.

Motiv creates packaging design and label design across wine, food and beverage and retail products. As an Adelaide-based brand design studio, we consider branding and packaging design as one cohesive approach, ensuring whatever we are designing… be it on labels, cartons or extended product ranges… reflect the brand positioning and personality and strengthen brand value.

From initial design and development through to print management and production support, we create packaging that is clear, considered and ready for market.

Product Packaging Design

Product packaging has an important job to do. It needs to communicate clearly and efficiently, create interest and help a product stand out in a busy retail environment.

Good packaging and design is not simply about making something look appealing. It needs to support brand recognition, clearly explain the product, build confidence and give the customer a reason to choose one brand over another. At Motiv, we carefully consider the full brand proposition before we approach the packaging graphic design. Every decision, from colour and typography through to structure, imagery and print finishes, is shaped around how the product will be understood, remembered and purchased.

Label Design

Label design is one of the most condensed brand surfaces in packaging. It needs to carry the product name, brand identity, key information, regulatory requirements and visual personality, often within a very limited amount of space.

A well-considered label balances hierarchy, legibility, materials, print finishes and production requirements. It may need to work across different substrates, bottle shapes, pack sizes, product variants or retail environments. There are a lot of considerations which effects how a label is perceived; speciality print finishes like foiling, embossing, varnishes, die-cutting and selection of label stocks and closure treatments all help to tell the story and express the quality of the product inside.

Motiv designs labels with the finished product in mind. We consider how the label will print, how it will sit on the shelf, how it will connect with the customer and how it will work as an extension in the broader communications We have many years of experience and expertise in achieving excellent results for our clients in this regard.

Wine Label Design, Where Brand Meets Bottle

Wine label design requires a careful balance between having strong shelf presence and clearly  expressing the brand story and product quality. The challenge is to execute this within a small surface area, selecting the appropriate details and finishes to achieve positive outcomes within a highly competitive category.

Working in one of the wine best known wine regions in Australia, Motiv have extensive experience in wine packaging design. From brand naming, label design and illustration, bottle presentation, cartons or gift packaging, to selection of bottles, label stock, print finishes and capsules or closures through to production and print management. Each wine brand needs to communicate its' own story, sense of place and personality, while remaining flexible and practical for use across ranges, varietals and vintages as well as in extended marketing and communications.

From boutique wine labels through to wine brands requiring broader wine packaging applications, we create distinctive wine brands which are carefully considered, well executed and ready for market.

Retail Packaging

Retail packaging needs to work hard in a completive category. It must attract attention on shelf, communicate the product clearly, support brand recognition and perform consistently across different formats, sizes and variants.

Motiv creates product packaging for FMCG, food, wine and retail products, including labels, boxes, cartons, pouches, sachets, unit packaging and shelf-ready packaging. We consider how each pack will sit cohesively within the wider product range, ensuring the system feels connected while still allowing individual products or variants to be easily identified.

For brands with multiple SKUs, the packaging needs to hold together as a family. Colour, typography, layout, imagery, naming and information hierarchy all need to work consistently to retain consumer brand recognition and ensure there is clear differentiation for the products within the ranges.

Common Ground, Utopos Wines

We created branding and packaging design for Common Ground, a stand-alone wine brand joining the Utopos Wines stable of wines. For the label design we created a strong icon in the form of a CG which is evocative of  a vineyard landscape. A series of bold coloured foils were used to distinguish the varietals within the range and give strong shelf presence.
